OBESOGENS – HORMONE DISRUPTERS IN OUR FOOD THAT MAKE US FAT!

June 30, 2013 By TheLifestylista

TaggedLaughinOnALakeFaceSo many of us are confused, angry, upset and disappointed in ourselves!  We’ve exercised, we’ve eaten well (we think) and still we’ve gained weight.  If were were cursers, we’d be cursing! BLEEEEEEEEEP &*%@!

The unfortunate truth is that there is another element that most of us are totally unaware of… EDCs, endocrine disrupting chemicals, aka obesogens!  These chemicals mimic hormones and, because of this, they interfere with our bodies and affect our weight.
HOW DO THESE OBESOGENS MAKE US FAT?
These dastardly chemicals (mostly man made)…  By disrupting our hormones, obesogens change our bodies’ behavior in many areas to do with weight.  Hormones are crucial to our weight because they tell our bodies when to burn fat and when to store it, when to eat and when not to eat.
Some endocrine disrupters alter the way the body allocates cells – so our bodies mistakenly produce more fat cells and / or bigger fat cells!
REALLY THOUGH?!  THIS CAN REALLY AFFECT MY WEIGHT???
Research done at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences discovered that a common fungicide (triflumizole) used on fruit and vegetables caused mice to become obese!  The Presidential Taskforce on Childhood Obesity has acknowledged the link between these chemicals and obesity.  Babies in the womb and young kids are the most at risk.  One study demonstrated that the women who had exposure to pesticides (the ones with pesticide residues in their bodies) gave birth to babies who were significantly more likely to overweight by the time they were 14 months old!
According to Jerry Heindel of the National Instititute of Environmental Health Sciences, “There are between fifteen and twenty chemicals that have been shown to cause weight gain, mostly from developmental exposure.”
WHAT CAN I DO? Two big things:
– Eat organic OR pesticide & fungicide free food.  IF YOU CAN’T DO THAT WASH YOUR FRUIT AND VEG WELL!  This can reduce that amount of these chemicals you take in
– Cut down on food that was wrapped in plastic (BPAs are endocrine disrupters) and food from cans (the chemicals leach into the food).
– Filter the tap water you drink, if you can.  Using e.g. a Brita filter www.brita.com
OTHER EFFECTS…
To be honest, these endocrine disrupters are so darned BLEEP &*%@ that they affect us in other ways too…
Researchers suggest that they can cause:
– a variety of cancers (including breast, prostate)
– problems with fertility
– changes in the functioning of your immune system
– birth defects and a lowering of the birth rate of boys specifically
– Attention deficit disorder and learning disabilities (neurodevelopmental delays) in kids
There are other types of chemicals that make us fat too…  Go to www.TheLifestylista.com and check out my article,”MSG IN FOOD MAKES US FAT & IT’S BEEN — — USED TO MAKE LAB RATS FAT FOR DECADES!”
Knowledge is power!
I am here rooting for you.

STRETCH MARKS… YOU ASKED AND I'M ANSWERING!

June 28, 2013 By TheLifestylista

STRETCH MARKS… YOU ASKED AND I’M ANSWERING! #BackByPopularDemand

StretchMarks
WHAT ARE STRETCH MARKS? This is the tearing of the skins second layer (the dermis). Often occurs during periods of significant weight gain or growth.

HOW TO PREVENT THEM?
Some studies suggest Vitamin E oil… Stay hydrated, eat foods that promote skin elasticity (Vitamins A, E, Omega 3s) and exercise to promote circulation.

HOW TO REMOVE THEM? You can reduce them but you can’t remove them… and sadly, the creams dont work! Not even cocoa butter The sooner you treat stretch marks the better. Use a laser while they’re still fresh and red. The heat from the laser stimulates collagen production.

THE BOTTOM LINE… Accept yourself girl! Most of us have stretch marks and we’re still beautifiul!

You guys requested this post again so I’ve reposted!

WANT TO LOOK GORGEOUS IN PHOTOS? Here's a SECRET CELEB POSE that works every time… the 'three quarters' 3/4

WANT TO LOOK GORGEOUS IN PHOTOS? Here’s a SECRET CELEB POSE that works every time…  the ‘three quarters’ 3/4

IMG_1739

So don’t stand with the bottom half of your body straight on, facing the camera.  And don’t stand sideways either.  Do a halfway house between the two – three quarters!  Then look directly to camera.  You not only look slimmer but the angles the camera will find on your face are invariably more flattering.  In fact, when doing this pose, it’s hard not to feel like you’re being shot on the red carpet itself.  It works!  Try it!

I’m here rooting for you 🙂

WANT TO BURN CALORIES QUICKLY BUT YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME..? #Celeb #Exercise #Secret

June 26, 2013 By TheLifestylista

I know you are busy and what with this and that. With all the stresses and the to-do lists, you can sometimes barely catch your breath, much less take exercise!!!
Help is at hand.
Did you know that if you walk up a hill… If you UP THE INCLINE… YOU WILL BURN SIGNIFICANTLY MORE CALORIES, in a shorter time. In some cases you can HALVE THE TIME you need to burn the same number of calories!

If you are sitting there reading this and shaking your head, then have no fear. Let me give you a case study girl. You know I don’t plan to leave you hanging! LOL.

If a 59 kg (129 pound) woman runs at
7 minutes per mile:
1) On flat ground for 30 minutes she’ll burn 391 calories
BUT
2) if she ups the incline to 5% (either on a treadmill or walking up a very slight hill), she’ll burn 526 calories for half an hour!
3) If she decides enough is enough and she finds a steeper hill that is a 10% incline… in 30 minutes, she’ll burn 615 calories… oh my goodness!
4) What if said woman really decides to make herself a hero… What if she ups the incline to 15%???!!!!! Well in 30 mins she’d be burning a mammoth 708 calories!

15inclineNordicTrackNTL14212_deck_feat2

So at an incline of 15% she can burn the same amount of calories in 17 minutes as she would burn if she ran for 30 mins on flat ground (0% incline)…

The bottom line is that BY INCREASING THE INCLINE, YOU CAN HALVE THE TIME YOU NEED TO BURN THE SAME AMOUNT OF CALORIES.

Even if you can’t run, this applies to walkers too. If you increase the incline you condition your muscles and you BRING ON THE FAT BURN 🙂

WHY DOES THIS WORK SO WELL?
Steep inclines cause your muscles to work harder and your heart too. It’s as simple as that. And if you’re carrying a weight up hill (for example, a backpack or a baby) then you burn even more calories.

WHAT IF I DON’T REALLY UNDERSTAND ALL THIS STUFF ABOUT INCLINES AND 15% AND ALL THIS?
Don’t worry bout it girl, just find yourself a hill. You’ll know when it’s working for you and as you get fitter, if your health allows it, you can try to go steeper.

Go girl. Walk up a hill today!
[Disclaimer: always check with a medical professional before starting a new exercise regime].

tyreseTheBody

And why the picture of Tyrese??? Imagine him at the top of the hill waiting for you 😉
No seriously, here’s my responsible answer to prove that this was not a totally gratuitous picture… #Tyrese is known as ‘The Body’ and these are the tips and tricks that’ll help you get your body the way you want it.

Here’s HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SPANX Slimming Shape wear :-)

June 25, 2013 By TheLifestylista

Want SPANX-like Slimming Shape Wear but don’t want to pay the big $$$? Here’s HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SPANX – a homemade solution… #PostBackByPopularDemand

2ndSpanx

1) Buy a pair of (strong) control top nylons. They don’t need to be the expensive kind and they can be old and raggedy LOL!
2) Use a pair of scissors to cut the legs off. If the legs start to run, use some hairspray or clear nail polish to ‘seal’ it.
3) There you have it! You’ve made yourself some Spanx in the comfort of your own home and without spending a fortune. Now you won’t have any panty lines and your tummy will be flat(ter).

Just remember YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL… RIGHT NOW! With or without this slimming underwear!

Spanx are great because they make you look trimmer BUT be aware that if you go for shapewear that’s too tight, you may cause acid reflux or an upset stomach. The point is for us to LOVE OURSELVES MORE NOT LESS. These homemade Spanx are not an excuse for you judge yourself, they are a reason for you to celebrate and to pat yourself on the back for being clever & resourceful enough to make your own shapewear!

Many of you have written me through the Facebook messaging system on http://www.facebook.com/Lifestylista and you asked me to get you amazing Lifestylista shapewear that’s geared specifically towards women of color (sometimes bigger thighs, behinds etc)… I’m working on it.

In the meantime, make your own!

DEAR LIFESTYLISTA – I KEEP HURTING MY CHILD, PLEASE HELP!

June 25, 2013 By TheLifestylista

DEAR LIFESTYLISTA – I KEEP HURTING MY CHILD, PLEASE HELP ***sweedy i have a big problem n seriously ned hlp,am so much attached to ma two yr girl dat i cnt even tk care of myself anymore, she is goin out of control, the wost is when i beat her we end up in hospital, not with a kain bt ma hands n not hard or strong either,am scared i might not raise up again in life, what shud i do dear? [NAME DELETED]***

LADIES – PLEASE GIVE YOUR SUPPORT TO OUR LIFESTYLISTA FRIEND [NAME DELETED]. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? WHAT HELP CAN YOU GIVE FROM YOUR OWN LIFE EXPERIENCE? WHATEVER YOU DO, PLEASE ***DO NOT FLING ANY STONES HER WAY, NOT ON THIS PAGE, NOT TODAY***. [NAME DELETED] IS A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY AND SHE’S COME TO US COURAGEOUSLY WITH A VERY SERIOUS MATTER AND SHE & HER DAUGHTER BOTH NEED OUR HELP.
Here was my answer:

Dear [NAME DELETED] – first of all let me acknowledge you girl for finding the strength to come forward and seek help. You obviously love your daughter very much and it sounds like you’re scared you might continue to hurt her.
1) Arrange for your daughter to stay with family or a trusted friend. Just temporarily. If you don’t feel as if you can tell them the truth, make something up!
2) GO NOW to speak to a MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. Do not think about it, do not hesitate, do not worry about the cost. Find the money because if things carry on the way they are and you don’t do anything to stop it… Something may happen, you may do something, that you can’t take back and that you’ll regret for the rest of your life. You love your little girl and you want the best for her so get help now. Right now you sound overwhelmed, scared and sad and getting help could help you and your daughter see the light at the end of this darkness.

You are not alone [NAME DELETED] and there are other women reading this page who will be reading this and realizing that they are not the only ones going through this.

I am not a medical professional and I don’t know what your specific diagnosis is.
Let me share the story of another lady who also felt afraid of what she might do.
— Watch Brooke Shields talk (on Oprah) about her struggle with post partum depression – she describes very graphically here her sudden visions, sudden flashes of thinking about harming her daughter. Thankfully, she was able to get help before anything happened…
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQc-Zlnfka4&t=2m35s]
So, to recap, as soon as you finish reading this [NAME DELETED].

1) Pick up the phone and call your sister, mother, aunt, trusted friend and arrange for them to take your daughter for a while.
2) Call a trusted doctor / general practitioner, tell him your symptoms and ask for a referral (to a medical professional who can help).

In the case of Brooke Shields and her specific diagnosis (postpartum depression), they gave her a combination of medication and therapy. I don’t know what your diagnosis will be but it may be heartening to read about another woman overcoming her biggest fear (seriously hurting her daughter).
http://www.webmd.com/depression/postpartum-depression/features/brooke-shields-depression-struggle?page=3
“The good news is that treatment for postpartum depression is often extremely effective, says women’s health expert Donnica Moore, MD, president of Sapphire Women’s Health in Far Hills, N.J. “It is not like treating strep throat, where you are 50% better in 24 hours. It takes some time,” she says. Treatment typically involves a combination of therapy and medication, along with plenty of rest and help from family and friends. Shields did all of the above.

“Without therapy, I wouldn’t have understood as much, and I think that without medicine, I would not have been clear enough,” Shields says.”

Lots of love [NAME DELETED] and we are all here rooting for healing and and end to the pain for you and your daughter!

SENIOR CITIZEN SIX PACK – this dude couldn't walk for 3 years… He had to CRAWL TO THE GYM!

June 24, 2013 By TheLifestylista

SENIOR CITIZEN SIX PACK – AN INSPIRATIONAL STORY! This dude couldn’t walk for 3 years… He had to CRAWL TO THE GYM when he started working out again! He said that having done weight training and been fit and healthy before his double stroke and his heart attack helped him to recover.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6vdQWGeohI&t=3m27s]
I took a stick mike to Venice beach and I spoke to these two amazing people – ‘Richie Rich’ and the miraculous ‘O’!
Every time you think you don’t have the time (or the darned desire) to exercise, remember this inspiring guy. His fitness saved him when he needed it most!

IT’S YOUR LIFE and I’m here rooting for you!
