Pomarita Cocktail – just drink this, and go “aaaah….” You deserve it! :-)

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup tequila
1 cup pomegranate juice
1/4 cup orange liqueur (triple sec, Cointreau)
1/2 lime, peeled
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 cups ice cubes
1 fresh lime, sliced thinly

INSTRUCTIONS in a Vitamix:
Place all ingredients except lime into container
Select Variable 1.
Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10.
Blend for 45 seconds.
Serve garnished with slices of lime.

Peanut Butter in a Vitamix – So tasty & easy to make ($$$ saved too!)

3 cups (420 g) unsalted roasted peanuts, or just your favorite peanuts!

INSTRUCTIONS in a Vitamix:
1) Select Variable 1.
2) Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10.

SHOCKING STUDY FINDS MSG IN FOOD MAKES US FAT & IT’S BEEN — — USED TO MAKE LAB RATS FAT FOR DECADES!

MSGfat4ratsGirl! Take a seat before I spill this news… Researchers at University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) have found that if you eat more MSG, you are more likely to be overweight! And they factored in the amount of calories and it wasn’t that… if you’re eating the same number of calories but your meals contain more MSG, you’ll gain more weight. PEOPLE WHO EAT MSG (vs people who don’t eat any MSG) GAIN WEIGHT. Brutal.

— HOW DOES MSG CA– — USE WEIGHT GAIN?
Another study, published in Obesity magazine showed that MSG MAKES YOU _THREE_ TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE OVERWEIGHT than someone eating the same amount of calories but no MSG! This study suggests that MSG actually damages your hypothalamus (the part of your brain that regulates appetite) and causes leptin resistance (leptin is a crucial hormone which regulates appetite and metabolism) so YOU NO LONGER FEEL FULL AND SATISFIED after you eat. Instead you just keep eating and eating…
So, the brainiac science aside… the bottom line is that this study suggests that MSG makes us fat! It’s not just us humans either…
RATS
…Think of the poor lab rats. For decades, when scientists want rats to be obese for certain experiments, they just give them MSG and HEY PRESTO – you get a HUGELY FAT RAT!

This wouldn’t be particularly interesting except that:
*1) We humans have been shown to be 5 times more sensitive to the damaging effects of MSG than rats are!
and
*2) Studies have shown that fat gained because of MSG is harder to lose (through diet or exercise).

MSG is a flavor enhancer that makes food taste better and IT’S FOUND IN ALMOST ALL PACKAGED FOOD. MSG is an excitotoxin – it stimulates the brain to make huge amounts of dopamine. When you eat food laced with MSG you feel a huge pleasure rush and it’s highly addictive too…

4 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO BEAUTIFY YOUR SKIN & GET RID OF BLACKHEADS…

4 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO BEAUTIFY YOUR SKIN & GET RID OF BLACKHEADS… “WHY DO I HAVE BLACKHEADS???” You’ve got dirt and dead skin cells clogging your pores… that’s why! And when you have blackheads, acne is often not far behind….

4 QUICK WAYS TO GET RID OF BLACKHEADS:
First clean your face then try one of these…

1) STEAM METHOD BOWL:
– Fill a bowl with hot water (be careful!)
– Put your face over the bowl
– Put a big towel over your head and let the steam do the work… opening up the pores
HOT TOWEL:
– Rest a hot towel (not too hot it burns you!) on your face for 5 – 10 mins
– The pores open
Once the pores are open, take 2 clean cotton balls (preferably hypo allergenic) and use them to ‘ease out’ the naughty blackheads out of your skin. Aaaaaaah. How disgusting and rewarding
Remember… Don’t squeeze with your fingers… Or else you could scar your face!

2) THE LIME METHOD
– Cut a lime in half.
– Pour some honey onto the lime (preferably dark and it’d be amazing if it were raw and organic too)
– rub the honey’d half lime all over your clean face… Let the honey & lime mixture stay on your face for 3 – 5 mins.
– Rinse off your face
This takes longer to work – several weeks of repeating this process!

3) EGG WHITE METHOD
– Separate the egg white from the yolk.
– Use a fork or whisk to beat the the egg whites
– Use your hands to put the beaten egg whites all over your face
– Put clean tissue on your nose (or wherever else you have blackheads) and leave for 45 minutes (or until totally dry)
– Once the tissue is dry, gently remove (and take a look at the gross blackheads now on the tissues heheheh
– Rinse off your face

16 surprising WAYS TO AVOID A KITCHEN DISASTER…

tagbeyoncecookingHave you ever made a mistake in the kitchen you felt you couldn’t fix?  Have no fear… Help is here!  These crafty, secret, generations-old family kitchen rescue secrets will sort out your most common cooking problems:

1.  If you’ve put too much salt into your cooking all is not lost!  Pop large chunks of regular white potato into the pot for 15mins… the potatoes will absorb the salt & then when you take them out you’ll have got rid of your extra salt!  Clever, huh?

2.  Want to stop your avocados from going brown? Squeeze some lime on or put them into ice water for a couple mins…

3.  Your sparkling wine lost its sparkle??! Put 4 raisins into the bottle and leave it for a few minutes… The dissolved carbon dioxide in the liquid will cling to the surface of the raisins and release as tiny bubbles. so youll have more bubbly in your bubbly! 🙂

4.  Secret Italian tomato tip: never put tomatoes in the fridge – the cold alters the texture, the taste and overall fabulousness of this fruity veg!

5.  Cooking secrets: if your veggies have wilted… Fear not!  Put them into cold, ice water which’ll rehydrate them.

6.  Too much moisture causes your vegetables to rot…  So to slow down the decomposition, put kitchen towels in your crisper! They’ll absorb the extra moisture.

7.  Do your hands smell of onion & garlic? Put your fingers under running water while rubbing them on stainless steel. This binds the sulfur compounds that cause those pesky, long lasting smells.  ‪

8.  Your limes or lemons not giving enough juice? Roll ’em on your counter top to get ’em primed for squeezin!

9.  Top secret way to peel ginger… Use the sharp edges of a teaspoon 🙂 it works!

10.  Want your bananas to ripen quickly?  Need to use them as soon as possible but they’re still green?  Put them in a paper bag (not plastic) overnight with an apple.  The ethylene gas will help them to ripen.

If you’re worried your bananas are getting too ripe and you need a way to slow down the ripening process…  simply separate the banana stems.  This works because the bananas alone also produce lots of ethylene gas that promotes ripening.  When you separate the bananas, you reduce the amount of ethylene gas each banana is exposed to…

And what if you’ve missed the boat and your bananas are officially ‘overripe’?  Take the skins off and freeze them. They’ll be great for smoothies later!

11.  Kitchen cooking secret: tip: if you want to brown something, don’t add any stock and don’t stir it! Liquid and movement don’t help browning or caramelization…

12.  Before you serve hot food… Take a few minutes to heat your plates up in the oven!  The same goes for cold food – put your plates in the freezer!

13. Take a breath and believe in yourself… You can do this!

14.  When you are freezing soup make sure you cool it before you put it in the freezer so it freezes more quickly.  This’ll give you smaller ice crystals which makes for a better texture when you come to defrost and reheat the soup.

15.  Clever way to quickly and efficiently wash baby ‘new’ potatoes: get a container with airtight top, put the tiny potatoes in and half fill the container with water.  Once you’ve done that all you need to do is shake the container and hey presto… Clean baby potatoes!

16.  Got old eggs in the fridge and you’re not sure if they’ve gone off? Put ’em in a bowl of water. If they float, they’re bad.  And if they sink, they’re good and all’s well with the world!
