Crazy, celeb BEAUTY SECRET… DIAPER NAPPY RASH CREAM! Pimples, acne, dry skin…

November 22, 2014 By TheLifestylista

LupitaNyongoSAGAwards2014Who’s got better skin than Lupita??? When it comes to dealing with pimples and dry skin, some celebrities have got a very inexpensive secret… Cheryl Cole told a British magazine that she uses Sudocrem (a British nappy rash creme) to “draw out her spots” because “it really works”. She’s not alone. Loads of Brits now carry little tubes of this nappy cream in their bags as a secret beauty aid.

WHAT’S IN IT AND WHY DOES IT WORK?
Key ingredients of Sudocrem nappy rash cream (compare this to your diaper rash creme)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudocrem
” —ZINC OXIDE 15.25% – astringent, soothing, protective

[LIFESTYLISTA: Lots of expensive beauty products contain zinc oxide. It brings down inflammation, dries out pimples and soothes & helps skin heal. If you’re allergic to zinc this won’t be a good choice for you though!]

— Lanolin (hypoallergenic) 4% – emollient
[LIFESTYLISTA: lanolin is moisturizing BUT some people are allergic to it. Beware!]

— Benzyl alcohol 0.39% – mild anesthetic
[LIFESTYLISTA: helps to soothe the OUCH of a painful pimple!] and disinfectant.

— Benzyl cinnamate 0.15% – antibacterial
[LIFESTYLISTA: helps to kill naughty acne causing bacteria] and antifungal.”

If you have a baby, just steal a bit of diaper rash cream when no one’s looking LOL! Think of it as a mother’s perk 🙂 And if you don’t have a baby, just BRAZENLY go to the pharmacy and ask them for diaper rash creme (with at least 15% zinc oxide and look at the other ingredients too).

Diaper rash cream is cheap, simple and easy to get… like stealing candy from a baby 🙂 [Sometimes I’m not as funny as I’d like to be – wanted to find a joke to put here but nothing’s coming 🙂

And just remember, I’m not a doctor so this isn’t a diagnosis of your particular skin condition!
I’m here rooting for you.
love,

Kara

WOW! The surprising FOOD TRICKS ACTORS — — USE TO TRANSFORM THE WAY THEY LOOK..!

November 21, 2014 By TheLifestylista

Queen-queen-latifah-30656178-1280-800In Oprah’s movie ‘The Butler’, #DavidOyelowo is a 37 year old man but to play #Oprah’s 17 year old son, he didn’t use makeup to make himself look younger. He just slept 10 hours a night and drank lots of water. And as his character aged, he reduced how much he did both. And when he needed a puffier face as he got older, he just ate food that was filled with salt….
If that’s what sleep and water and salty foods can do to an actor, what about us??!
#TheButler

I’m here rooting for you!

MAKE YOUR LIPSTICK LAST LONGER: 7 amazing Celeb makeup artist tips

November 4, 2014 By TheLifestylista

IdrisandTarajiAre you sick and tired of your lipstick disappearing almost as soon as you put it on? A few little drinks from a glass, a bit of chatting and BAM… NO MORE LIPSTICK!!! What a bore and it’s expensive too.
Here’s how to make your lipstick last longer:
—1a) If your lips are dry and chapped… EXFOLIATE YOUR LIPS
You don’t want flaking skin or cracked lips ruining your look… So, put a load of lip salve on your lips and take an old, soft bristled toothbrush and gently rub in a circle. You are getting rid of the dead skin cells (and you’ve got to be careful not to rub too hard and hurt your lips)! Take some tissue and wipe off your lips to get rid of the lip salve AND the dead skin.
OR
—1b) If your lips are fine, then put some liquid foundation on them (this’ll be a great base for the lipstick to attach to).
—2) Take a LIPLINER the same color as your lipstick. FILL IN YOUR WHOLE LIP – top and bottom.
Try to use a moisturizing liner rather than one of those drying kohl lip liners.
—3) Put on your first layer of lipstick.
If you can, use a lip brush to apply your lippy… WHY? Because it helps you get the lipstick into all the nooks and crannies of your lips and the lip brush applies a thinner layer which lasts longer.
You could also use a longlasting lipstick BUT some people find these way too drying (I do! Longlasting lipstick makes my lips feel like the Sahara desert and that 8 hour lip coating thing is even worse! Sooooo drying! .
Whatever you do, don’t use glossy lipstick because that sooooooo won’t stay on…
—4) KISS YOUR HAND or BLOT YOUR LIPS WITH TISSUE
—5) BLOT TRANSLUCENT MAKEUP POWDER (or a little baby powder) on your lips.
This locks in the color.
—6) Apply another layer of lipstick.
—7) BLOT (using your hand or a tissue) and TAKE YOUR FINGER AND CLOSE YOUR MOUTH OVER IT (like it’s a popsickle). Take your finger out and you’ll got rid of the lipstick that had planned to end up on your teeth!!! Nice save
So now your lips look great but for how long???
That’s up to you.
Do:
– Drink through a straw
– Eat food using small bites so you don’t touch your lips
– Avoid too much lip licking or kissing people
BUT:
If you’re like me, you’ll start off intending to look like Gabrielle Union with perfect, long-lasting lipstick but then as soon as you arrive at the party, you’ll laugh, lick your lips, eat some food, give people pecks on the cheek and the lipstick will be gone in no time! I’m pretty darned low maintenance. LOL.I’m here rooting for you!

Kara

THE 7 WAYS TO GET LONG HAIR NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF HAIR YOU HAVE…

October 25, 2014 By TheLifestylista

OprahHairTHE 7 WAYS TO GET LONG HAIR NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF HAIR YOU HAVE… Vote ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ COMMENT BELOW! So many of you want long hair but you tell yourselves that it’s all down to genes and that there are some kinds of hair that don’t really grow… Not true! Most of my posts are universal but this post isn’t – today I’m speaking directly to black (/ African-American) ladies. With black hair, it’s as important to STOP BREAKAGE as it is to ENCOURAGE GROWTH. So often we think our hair isn’t growing, when in fact what’s really happening is that it’s breaking…

1) DO AS LITTLE TO IT AS POSSIBLE
Ever wondered why the same people who say their hair “can’t grow” get dreadlocks and, all of a sudden, WOOSH – long hair?! This is the ‘lowest manipulation’ hairstyle possible – there’s no combing, no brushing, no chemical relaxers. I’m not saying get locks, you choose your hairstyle… I’m just illustrating a point:
— When we do the minimum to black hair (no matter what texture), we see it grow and grow and grow … So intensive styling every day with combs, brushes and heat doesn’t help the cause.

2) BE GENTLE WHEN YOU WASH YOUR HAIR
– Don’t use hot, hot water – this can dry your hair out.
– Use a gentle, moisturizing shampoo (preferably sulphite free) and sometimes try washing your hair with a conditioner… This is called “co-washing” (if this sounds crazy to you, just try it and you’ll think you were crazy for not knowing about it all these years LOL!)
– Try to deep condition your hair at least every two weeks.

3) ADD MOISTURE AND LOCK IT IN
Our hair is drier and more brittle than other types of hair (European, Asian etc.) partly because our curly roots make it hard for our natural hair oils to find their way along the hair shaft right down to the ends of our hair… So if we don’t keep our thirsty hair moisturized, it’ll be less elastic and it’ll be much more likely to break the heck off whether we like it or not.

4) CUT YOUR SPLIT ENDS
OK – this is no joke! I know some of y’all hate to cut your hair (“I’m tryin to grow it b&*tch not cut it!”) but if you really want long hair you’re going to have to trim your hair before the split end damage moves further up your hair shaft. Think of it this way… You’re containing a fire before it spreads!

5) PROTECT THE HAIR
– Sleep in a silk or satin scarf to prevent all the friction and breakage when you rub your head on your cotton pillow at night.
– After washing, don’t dry your hair with a cotton towel – too much water will be absorbed before you can seal in moisture and there’s too much friction. Instead use a microfiber towel, a cotton T-shirt or kitchen paper towels – these smoother surfaces absorb just the right amount of water and don’t cause friction, knots or disrupt your natural post washing curl pattern…
– Be mindful that any chemicals or heat you apply to your hair will promote breakage. So either stop doing it OR be extra careful to minimize the amount of extra styling you do and maximize the amount of moisturizing you do.
– Don’t use products containing alcohol (talk about drying your hair out… YUK!)

6) CLEAN PORES
Girl, your scalp needs to breathe! All the stuff you put in your hair builds up over time and can block your pores and stunt the growth of your hair! And NEVER use Vaseline or any other petroleum based product on your hair or scalp unless you want your darned pores clogged the heck up…

7) DIET
If you don’t get the right nutrition your hair won’t grow…
For more on this, go to www.TheLifestylista.com — Beauty & Style section to see my article “WANT TO GROW YOUR HAIR LONG? Here’s how to EAT to help make that happen…”

I am here rooting for you! (“Rooting” get it  Hair… Roots… Nevermind).

4 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO BEAUTIFY YOUR SKIN & GET RID OF BLACKHEADS…

October 21, 2014 By TheLifestylista

4 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO BEAUTIFY YOUR SKIN & GET RID OF BLACKHEADS… “WHY DO I HAVE BLACKHEADS???” You’ve got dirt and dead skin cells clogging your pores… that’s why! And when you have blackheads, acne is often not far behind….

4 QUICK WAYS TO GET RID OF BLACKHEADS:
First clean your face then try one of these…

1) STEAM METHOD BOWL:
– Fill a bowl with hot water (be careful!)
– Put your face over the bowl
– Put a big towel over your head and let the steam do the work… opening up the pores
HOT TOWEL:
– Rest a hot towel (not too hot it burns you!) on your face for 5 – 10 mins
– The pores open
Once the pores are open, take 2 clean cotton balls (preferably hypo allergenic) and use them to ‘ease out’ the naughty blackheads out of your skin. Aaaaaaah. How disgusting and rewarding
Remember… Don’t squeeze with your fingers… Or else you could scar your face!

2) THE LIME METHOD
– Cut a lime in half.
– Pour some honey onto the lime (preferably dark and it’d be amazing if it were raw and organic too)
– rub the honey’d half lime all over your clean face… Let the honey & lime mixture stay on your face for 3 – 5 mins.
– Rinse off your face
This takes longer to work – several weeks of repeating this process!

3) EGG WHITE METHOD
– Separate the egg white from the yolk.
– Use a fork or whisk to beat the the egg whites
– Use your hands to put the beaten egg whites all over your face
– Put clean tissue on your nose (or wherever else you have blackheads) and leave for 45 minutes (or until totally dry)
– Once the tissue is dry, gently remove (and take a look at the gross blackheads now on the tissues heheheh
– Rinse off your face

4) ASPIRIN MASK See my article on how to make an aspirin mask… (and please pay attention to all my CAUTIONS about this one too!!!) https://thelifestylista.com/?p=2029

Blackheads are no joke and can sooooo lead to acne…
You go girl, it’s worth taking a little time to take care of yourself.

I’m here rooting for you!

SAD or PRETTY? Man surgically changes EYE COLOR from brown to blue…

October 16, 2014 By TheLifestylista

SAD or PRETTY?  I’m thinking sad. Man surgically changes EYE COLOR from brown to blue…  Share what you really think.  Though they are risking their eyesight…  A load of men and women are flocking to doctors abroad for a new surgical technique that has not yet been approved in the States.

I’ll be honest with you… This new fad makes me sad.  I remember Toni Morrisson’s book – ‘The Bluest Eye’ where a little black girl in the South of the States didn’t feel she was worth anything unless her eyes were blue.  In fact, she wanted them so much that she lost her mind and started to believe she really did have blue eyes… The obsession took over.

Now these grown ups aren’t content to privately not love the way they look, they are paying surgeons to slice into their eyes and risk their eyesight…  Am I being a downer here?  What do you feel about it?  Or is it just none of our business? LOL.
love,
Kara
